What makes me tick

Hello, I’m Fiona - a 5ft creative Scot with 10 years industry experience, a love of design, the occasional whisky, and big ideas done properly.

I thrive on getting under the skin of a brief and unpacking it both visually and strategically, creating work with a 360° design mindset. Today’s consumers expect brands to be adaptive and meaningful, design must not only look incredible but perform across multiple channels, with the rigour to hold up under scrutiny.

Design Experience

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a wide range of brands - from luxury, boutique and start-ups, to powerhouse FMCG brands. This has honed my adaptability. Over the years I’ve brought the fun to Hula Hoops, created a flexible design system for a housing developer in the Philippines, and crafted the design of a jar of honey worth £2,000, to name a few.

For the past six years at an agency, I’ve developed and applied a strategic approach to design. Working across both strategy and design teams from copywriting and uncovering insights that shape creative territories, to fleshing out campaign ideas. I believe the strongest creative work comes from design underpinned by clear strategy, with designers fully involved in the journey.

Alongside this, I’ve led client presentations and pitches, collaborated with diverse teams and company sizes, mentored and led team members, ran photoshoots, and acted as brand guardian for many clients.

Beyond Design

Beyond design, I’ve worked from a young age, developing a strong work ethic by adapting across roles and working with people from all walks of life. I started at 14 in a fish and chip shop on £2.50 an hour, later waitressing in a luxury country hotel, and carried that momentum into university, juggling two jobs alongside my degree. These experiences taught me to thrive in diverse teams and adapt quickly to new environments.

Alongside work, I’ve always had a keen interest in psychology and theatre, passions that continue to shape me as a designer. I view design through the lens of visual psychology, engaging both system 1 and system 2 thinking, whilst my theatre background has given me confidence and presence when presenting creative work, making me comfortable in any room and proud of what I deliver.

Volunteering

I previously volunteered with Super Weeks, a charity providing children in need with a week-long summer camp experience. Supporting children, including those with special needs, taught me empathy, patience, and the importance of mentorship.

For fun

I love trying new things, whether it’s ceramics, trapeze, theatre performance, pasta making, or solo backpacking trips. I even took the plunge to live and study in Germany for six months. These experiences have taught me to embrace new challenges and adapt quickly - a mindset I bring to work when learning new software, AI tools, or tackling unfamiliar projects.
